Baraka Institute offers a dynamic, mind/body training program in Whole Person Design coaching (Life Coaching). The courses explore all the characteristics that make up an able, successful whole person design coach.

Baraka Institute's coaching curriculum is designed to fully integrate professional coaching competencies into students’ daily lives that they become second nature to the practicing coach. Armed with the sophisticated tools and techniques garnered through this program, the coach is in the powerful position of being readily responsive to a variety of client types and needs. What is whole person design coaching?

Whole person design coaching is based on the philosophy that when holistically balanced and well, living the lifestyle that suits your individuality, you are in alignment with your soul’s purpose; victorious. When correctly employed, whole person design coaching allows you to more readily understand your higher sense of purpose and provides you with the tools necessary to achieve your life/lifestyle goals. Whole person design coaching looks at the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of your life and works toward bringing those aspects into harmony.

A whole person design coach works in partnership with clients exploring their goals, opportunities, habits, values, viewpoints, and barriers. Coaches help clients discover and begin utilizing their unique talents, abilities, passions, desires and sense of purpose to manifest holistic unity, personal fulfillment and life success.

Whole Person Design Life Coaching Core Curriculum:

Baraka Institute’s 16-day (125 hour) Life Coach Training Program consists of four core courses offered over 6 months. Success: Business Development and Marketing, while not required, is a highly recommended supplementary course. Success is open to the general public for those interested in developing their practice. Success is a 6-month course that includes two group workshops and bi-weekly mentoring over a course of 6 months.

4 weekend sessions covering 125+ hours of material
Classes held Thursdays 4-8:00p, Friday-Sundays from 9a-6p.

Additional coach specific practice training hours run from 6-8p
on weekends as discussed in the first module of your training.

Class Descriptions:

Personal Mastery Module (may be taken as a stand along)

This course offers students a foundation in whole person design coaching. It is the entry course into the Program but may also serve as a stand alone course for any who want to improve their communication skills to enhance relationships in all aspects of life. For those interested in participating in the certification program, you will attend the Intro to Coaching day on the Sunday after Personal Mastery.

Personal Mastery is about creating what is wanted in all aspects of life. It is a discipline based in personal vision and purpose. Practitioners of personal mastery are inquistive and understanding of how life unfolds. They do not resist, but work with and embrace the forces of change. The are committed to viewing reality from many perspectives and seek accuracy in understanding and response.

Personal Mastery is a hands-on course in which students apply techniques of whole person design to situations posed through individual and interactive group exercises. Appreciative feedback provides opportunities for growth and understanding. Those having completed this course will have the communication skills, tools and techniques to readily apply to their daily lives.

What to expect from this course:

  • Explore whole system perspectives and contexts
  • Study the art of inquiry - essential in coaching communication
  • Provide directive guidance without giving advice
  • Become aware of nuances in body language that may either compliment or contradict what clients are saying
  • Practice creating optimal coaching environments to build trust, rapport
  • Improve communications in all aspects of life
  • Gain tools for conflict management
  • Create a higher level of awareness of own communication styles and adjust to meet clients’ needs
  • Learn how to work with the various learning styles to communicate in appropriate manner to clients

Systems: Whole Person Design Module

“Systems” coaching embraces the whole person. Coaching relationships built in the “whole person design” fashion are based on the knowledge that actions can and do spark subsequent actions. Thoughts, beliefs, actions do not stand isolated but touch on every aspect of life even when not readily apparent. Whole person design provides more perspectives in a broader landscape opening the door to greater understanding.

In Systems, discover how whole person design can be used to first assist clients in determining the source of unproductive behaviors. Learn practical tools and methods for helping clients create a whole system plan for changing the patterns in which they’ve been mired so they can go on to lead an empowered and meaningful life.

  • Study the use of whole systems design for helping clients describe and progress toward their desired future
  • Learn and personalize the Baraka Whole Person Design coaching model
  • Examine methods for helping clients use whole person design to view many useful perspectives
  • Aid client's in recognizing self-defeating patterns and influences
  • Practice whole person design techniques on self and others
  • Refine the art of questioning - what kinds of questions prompt insights and positive actions
  • Prepare a whole person design intake session personalizing materials for chosen niche
  • Build whole person design wheels
  • Aid clients in setting well-formed outcomes and goals
  • Join others in using body movement exercises to work through the discovery process, acting out components of the desired system



Processes: Tools & Techniques

Learn to integrate coaching theory and whole systems design using tools, techniques and strategies of the professional coach. This course is heavily interspersed with live demonstration, practical exercises and beneficial instructor feedback.

Process looks at the hurdles with which clients are often confronted. This rough patch in clients’ progression is often a time of self discovery – good or bad. Students utilize tools that can help clients view their lives more positively; commit to their desired action plan; continue to move toward their dreams.

What to expect from this course:
  • Create a life works plan for clients employing
    whole person design tools and techniques
  • Design initial "discovery" session and
    personalize it to suit business/client
  • Work with negative thought patterns using body/mind techniques
  • Learn to help clients identify and apply meaning to their values and beliefs; determine the underlying forces that governs associated thoughts and actions to examine for validity
  • Work through the various levels of change; know when to intervene
  • Discover how to help client recognize whether or not changes they propose will really have the desired outcome they are seeking
  • Select three "types" of coaching to explore for potential niches
  • Specialize your tool kit for positive change based on your desired coaching clientele
  • Coach in a supportive environment and receive appreciative feedback
  • Generate plan illustrating long term vision for own business/work

Flow: Integration & Refinement Module

Flow focuses on integrating the coaching skills learned in previous courses with the student’s personality to create a highly skilled coach that is wholly unique. Incorporate curiosity and receptiveness into guiding techniques rather than strict rules for enhanced responsiveness to clients.

This course offers a safe venue for refining coaching skills and honing confidence. Students learn how to differentiate themselves in the market; to carve a niche best suited to their strengths and style. Upon completion of this course, students will feel ready to assist as guides through complex changes using their own creative resources enhanced by participation in the program.

Prerequisites: Personal Mastery, Systems: Whole Person Design, Process: Tools & Techniques

What to expect from this course:

  • Practice using whole person design to help clients recognize undesirable behaviors, thoughts and patterns
  • Create a "treasure map" of life goals for self and a client
  • Respond to challenging client situations with grace;
    gain confidence for responding
  • Demonstrate confidence in knowledge and use of coaching skills
  • Ample feedback to help smooth the transition
    into coaching as a profession
  • Identify and resolve unwanted thoughts and/or beliefs that may act as barriers to practitioners success


Success: Business Development & Marketing

Business and entrepreneurial skills are handy partners to those of coaching and may, in fact, be the difference between a successful coaching practice and a struggling one. Related yet distinct, both skill sets require much discipline and determination to master.

Learn how to optimize business potential and sharpen awareness to individual needs and environment. Success is focused on evaluating each student’s present or potential business situation, providing the tools necessary for reshaping or building it to suit desired business plans. This course examines business goals, work habits, personal and professional values, and barriers. Those having completed this course can begin utilizing their unique talents, abilities, passions, desires and sense of purpose to demonstrate business acumen, personal fulfillment and professional/life success.


Prerequisites: None - Open to anyone ready to grow their business potential.

Getting ICF Accreditation (ACC or PCC)

  • The requirement for
    ACC Accreditation is 60 hours of COACH SPECIFIC TRAINING
    PCC Accreditation is 125 hours of COACH SPECIFIC TRAINING

    These hours hours can be obtained from either of the following sources:

    1. Training from a program that has received the ICF Approved Coach-Specific Training Hours (ASCTH) designation, or
    2. Training that is specifically marketed as teaching coaching skills, that teaches coaching skills or teaches how to apply technical skills in a coach-like manner and teaches coaching skills in accordance with the ICF Core Coaching Competencies.

Overview of ICF ACC requirements:

    • 60 documented hours of Coach Specific Training*
    • Client Coach Log Documenting 100 hours of Coaching
      Minimum of 75 paid hours
    • Minimum of 8 clients
    • 2 Letters of reference for ICF PCC or MCC accredited coaches that have heard you coach.
    • Demonstrated competency in ICF's oral examination
    • $225 fee for ICF members/$425 for non-members
    • $75 exam fee
